Menarche (Word of the Day)

Menarche is the word of the day. Decades ago, I did not know the word menarche when the event occurred. Now I want young women (and older ones) to know the meaning of the word menarche when it's most important.

I turned to Merriam-Webster dictionary for the definition of menarche:

menarche - the beginning of the menstrual function; especially : the first menstrual period of an individual.

Did you know the meaning of menarche? When menstruation started, it was typically referred to as your first period. Menarche sounds more ladylike to me. It also rolls off the tongue like Monarch, a butterfly, the transformation...

Words are beautiful.
