Phoebe Prince was the 15 year old girl who committed suicide after endless actual and online torture from her peers. Denise Cotteta is a 17 year old girl who died right outside her high school in a car accident. Both young women lost their lives too soon.
Today 9 teens were indicted in the death of Phoebe Prince. Meanwhile, police continue to investigate to find out the circumstances surrounding the death of Denise Cotteta. Both seem to be tragedies that could have been avoided.
It is scary to think about how vulnerable our teens are. Was there no way to save Phoebe Prince or Denise Cotteta? What does life mean to other young people? Are teens desensitized to what is happening around them to the point their peers could die?
As a mother and grandmother, it makes me want to hold my children closer. I appreciate the ongoing investigations to achieve justice in the cases of Phoebe Prince and Denise Cotteta. The sad part is even in the face of justice, we cannot bring back Phoebe Prince or Denise Cotteta.
My heart goes out to the families and friends of Phoebe Prince and Denise Cotteta. I can only imagine the loss and pain they feel. I hope hearing about Phoebe Prince and Denise Cotteta makes every teen (and adult) think harder about their actions and how they affect others.
